Up for grabs is a working Bang & Olufsen Beogram TX 2 linear tracking/tangential opp turntable that my Uncle Bill acquired in October 1986. It requires some additional care to work ideally, but should be simple to repair. Please note what works below. To improve function:
this machine needs a new MMC4 stylus to track records correctly. Up until recently, the stylus worked very well, but it now either skates over the grooves without "settling in" as you would expect, or it tracks but with audible distortion that isn't present when playing the same records on my other turntables. Tracking force and other matters of cartridge calibration otherwise appear to be correct based on my observations and tests, so my guess is the stylus is worn to the point that it just won't track as it should. Please watch the video I've uploaded with this listing to get an idea of how it tends to function, and plan to inspect this machine or arrange for it to be serviced before you attempt to use it with your collection. Do note that additional care could be required beyond just my surface-level observations, so consulting a professional may be wise. Parts that do work correctly:
the wormscrew, turntable assembly, power and audio cables, and the included Pyle Pro pre-amp. I'm also including the manuals and other cartridge accoutrements that Bill saved with this machine. Please contact me if you would like to see a video of the wormscrew function, as it works perfectly.
